program profiles

Here is a snapshot of some of the shows currently airing on Three D Radio.

Programs are constantly evolving at Three D Radio, and announcers inject their own flavour into each show they produce.

Some shows will have a naturally short lifespan, but others will thrive and entertain year after year. Some of our longest running shows on Three D include Smash it Up, The Prison Show, Blues Power, Hillbilly Hoot and the Environment Show.

Three D Radio Programs

Announcers are free to play whatever they wish - there are no playlists at Three D Radio - and that makes us pretty unique!

The Whole Kit & Caboodle Monday 5-6.30pm

Red hot rockabilly, garage, kitsch and exotica mixed up with dreamy creamy mashed potato pop and funk, plus lots of local sounds.

On 'Tune that Name' at around 5.20pm we dedicate the entire show to all listeners lucky enough to have been born with a particular name. We even throw in an explanation of the meaning and origin of your handle, and let you know how popular it's been in South Australia in recent years.

Then get 'on the job' with (the whole) kit & caboodle at 5.45pm, with a themed musical bracket dedicated to a different profession each week.

It’s (the whole) kit & caboodle.

Tune into the wireless every Wednesday between 4pm and 5pm to Out Of School 'cause the music rocks!

Three D Radio has been committed to giving the youth a voice over the airwaves since when the station first began in 1979. It's a great way to hear some of Adelaide's youth bands, presented by ordinary, young people who have an interest in local music.

Out Of School's current DJ, Cale, is a high school student.

If you are in a band and would like to forward on any information to Out Of School about the band or any upcoming gigs, then please send Cale an email.

Vanishing Point Tuesday 11pm-1am

The Vanishing Point is Three D's experimental music radio show. "Experimental" is defined loosely but covers everything from early dada/music concerete to modern electronica, ambient, industrial, power electronics, EBM, neo-folk, noise, spoken word and the just plain bizarre.

The show, originally called "Osmosis" dates back to the earliest days of Three D Radio and has witnessed several DJs. Current host, G.G. Alan Bindig has manned the show since 1997.

Top 20+1 Saturday 7-9pm

On the air every Saturday night between 7 and 9pm, the Top 20+1 is Three D’s own Chart Show…with a difference.

We count down the 21 most played new releases by our announcers over the previous week. Three D does not playlist, nor are we particularly concerned with record sales; we play music because we dig it! In this way, the Chart provides a weekly sonic snapshot of Three D’s unique sound. It’s the only place you’ll hear local artists’ bedroom-recorded demo disks do battle with big-budget platinum-selling productions to snatch that coveted Number 1 spot!

The weekly Charts are compiled to form the impressive Top 101+1, broadcasting each year in January.

Hillbilly Hoot
Mondays, 8-9pm
Ali and the Hoot

Hillbilly Hoot Monday 8-9pm

Music recorded in fine music studios is great. But music done by ordinary folk who would be singing around the piano at the singalong if that is what people did any more, is great too. So every Monday evening, Three D Radio hosts just that - an open mic live-to-air, from 8pm to 9pm. We never know who is going to turn up, we don't audition, we just welcome anyone along who would like to sing a song. They need to have brought a chord chart if they want others to join in. We always get lots of folk coming along just to watch, (bring your own chair) as this all takes place in the stables at the back of the studio at 48 Nelson Street. Be prepared for the great - and the raw.

So, if you're after a bit of a musical happening with a pot of hot soup and a campfire, look no further - just come along to the Hoot and join in.

Wrong Way - Go Back!!
Wednesdays, 11pm - 1am
Hadley

Wrong Way Go Back Wednesday 11pm - 1am

Gasp! Shock! Horror!! Due to poor recent on-field performances, long serving defender, Wrong Way - Go Back!! has been dropped to the B-side - "Until further notice"... Coach 3D has also stated that... "His overall attitude sucks, to put it mildly - if he doesn't pull up his socks soon, Wrong Way could be lost in the wilderness for a long, long time."

Wrong Way - Go Back!! 3d Radio's mythical award winning Tuesday Drive Time show has relocated to Wednesday 11pm to 1am - with all the same bitumen burning blarney, Antipodean Classix, Footy Zone & Of Human League Bondage... old stuff with grunt & new stuff with some sorta dignity & aplomb.
Be there... ...or be on the bench!!

Yodel Action
Saturdays, 11am-1pm
Ali Oakley & Lone Tony Joe

Yodel Action Saturday 11am-1pm

Do you remember when you thought country was really uncool? Well that was before alt. country and before grunge country and before we realised that country is the thing that links together all the other things we are allowed to love: blues, boogie, honky tonk, rockabilly, rock, folk, swing, jazz, gospel, cowboy and bluegrass - yes, they all have a connection somewhere. Yodel Action plays the lot; old timey come on in, as well as modern combinations of all those things.

Join Lone Tony Joe with the Hillbilly Help Desk and Ali Oakley who brings you Heavy Petal - as they alternate the 11am-1pm timeslot each Saturday. Together, they are ThreeD's Yodel Action.

We believe in the Squeezebox.

Sunglasses at Night Saturday 9-11pm

Imagine if the tv show Fame was on the radio each week.

And imagine if, instead of going out on Saturday nights, you could stay home and listen to young people dancing on cars in leg warmers!!

Well sorry... Sunglasses at Night is really nothing like that.

But do we do play cool local music - our cover of the week - some great unreleased demos - and odd little German darkwave bands - plus we try not to talk too much.

BUT IMAGINE IF IT WAS JUST LIKE FAME! WOW! HOW AMAZING WOULD THAT BE?!
